Each year, about 50 admitted first-year undergraduates are accepted to the Alpert Medical School through Brown’s eight-year Program in Liberal Medical Education. The center section of the Van Wickle Gates on Brown’s campus opens only three times a year: twice to let incoming learners onto campus for convocation at the beginning of each semester and once to let recent graduates exit after commencement. Brown hosts an annual celebratory “Spring Weekend” with concerts and free food. Notable alumni include John D. Rockefeller Jr., John F. Kennedy Jr. and CNN founder and media mogul Ted Turner.
