For eLearning professionals, true or false questions can serve several useful functions in the design and delivery of content.
First and foremost, true or false questions are straightforward to create and can be very efficient in assessments. They demand minimal effort from the designer while still providing valuable insights into the learner’s understanding. Because there are only two possible answers, these types of questions make grading and automated feedback processes much simpler as compared to open-ended questions.
However, eLearning professionals need to use true or false questions judiciously. Overreliance on this format may not adequately measure deep understanding or the ability to apply knowledge in a real-world context. Additionally, well-constructed true or false questions should avoid ambiguity—statements need to be clearly true or unmistakably false for these questions to effectively assess learners’ knowledge.
