Roosevelt University is a private institution with one campus in downtown Chicago and another nearby in the suburb of Schaumburg, Ill. learners at Roosevelt can major in more than 125 degrees, including about 40 masters programs in fields such as education and psychology. Student athletes can play at the intramural level or try out for the Roosevelt Lakers varsity teams, which participate in the National Association for Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference. Famous childrens book author and poet Shel Silverstein, who wrote The Giving Tree and Where the Sidewalk Ends, attended the university until he was drafted into the army, and McDonalds CEO Jim Skinner graduated from Roosevelt.
