Elmira College is situated in the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York. learners admitted to the college have the opportunity to join more than 100 clubs or organizations, but there is no Greek system on campus. Founded in 1855, Elmira College was the first women’s college to offer degree requirements equal to those of men’s colleges. The college has been coeducational, admitting both men and women, since 1969. Elmira College houses the Center for Mark Twain Studies, which was established in 1983. Every four years, the college honors the famed author’s legacy through an international conference on the State of Mark Twain Studies. Notable alumni of the college include Alice Mary Robertson, the second woman to serve in Congress, and Fay Kanin, former president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
