Tech Advice

Have you ever wished you could connect your Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons to your iPad or iPhone for an enhanced gaming experience? Well, the good news is that it’s possible! With just a few simple steps, you can transform your Apple device into a portable gaming console. This article will walk you through the process of connecting your Joy-Cons for seamless gaming on the go.

Step 1: Update Your Devices

Before you begin, make sure that both your Nintendo Switch and Apple device are updated to their latest versions. To do this, simply check for updates in your device settings and perform any necessary upgrades.

Step 2: Enable Bluetooth on Your Apple Device

To connect your Joy-Cons to your iPad or iPhone, you’ll need to enable Bluetooth. To do this, navigate to Settings > Bluetooth, and turn it on if it isn’t already.

Step 3: Power Off the Nintendo Switch

This step may seem counterintuitive, but powering off your Nintendo Switch ensures that your Joy-Cons will be recognized by your Apple device. Hold down the power button on the top left corner of your Switch until a menu pops up. Select “Power Options,” followed by “Turn Off.”

Step 4: Disconnect Joy-Cons from Your Nintendo Switch

Now that your Switch is turned off, remove both Joy-Cons by pressing the small button located on the back of each controller while sliding them upward.

Step 5: Initiate Pairing Mode on Joy-Cons

In order for your iPad or iPhone to recognize the Joy-Cons as Bluetooth devices, they’ll need to be in pairing mode. To initiate this, press and hold the ‘SYNC’ button (located between SL and SR buttons) on each Joy-Con until their side lights start flashing.

Step 6: Pair Your Joy-Cons with Your Apple Device

Your Apple device should now display the Joy-Cons as available Bluetooth devices. Locate them in the list (they’ll most likely be named “Joy-Con (L)” and “Joy-Con (R)”), and tap to connect. Be sure to pair both controllers!

Step 7: Launch a Compatible Game

Some games, such as Fortnite, have built-in controller support which makes using your Joy-Cons a breeze. For other games lacking native support, you can opt for a third-party app like “Controllers for All” to help you map the Joy-Cons input.

You’re now ready to enjoy an elevated gaming experience on your Apple device! While it may take some time to adjust to the new controls, being able to use your Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons on your iPad or iPhone adds an exciting layer of versatility to your gaming sessions. Happy playing!
