Situated on the outskirts of Detroit, the University of MichiganDearborn was started in 1956 on land donated by Ford Motor Co. The Henry Ford Estate, which was home to the automotive pioneer and his wife, is situated on the schools campus and is now a National Historic Landmark. Today, undergraduates at UM-Dearborn can choose from more than 60 fields of study, and graduate learners can pursue masters degrees in about 30 fields, including business and public administration. UM-Dearborn learners can get a unique look at different cultures by exploring the universitys specialized institutes, such as the Center for Arab American Studies and the Armenian Research Center.
On campus, UM-Dearborn learners can get involved through the Community Involvement and Volunteerism Center (CIViC), student government, and more than 125 clubs. Student athletes can play at the recreational, club, and intercollegiate levels. The University of MichiganDearborn Wolves varsity teams participate in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference.
