The University of Redlands is a private school situated halfway between Los Angeles and Palm Springs, Calf., with mountains, cities, and beaches nearby. Redlands offers more than 40 undergraduate majors and more than 10 for graduate learners, including a two-year program in the Department of Communicative Disorders. Several classes are taught in energy-efficient “green” buildings, and many Redlands learners help the environment by participating in the annual Recycle Day and working on the school’s sustainable farm. Because of Redlands’ unique location, learners have a variety of school-sponsored outdoor pursuits to try, such as hot air ballooning and sea kayaking. On campus, the school even offers clubs for surfing and quidditch, the fictional sport in the Harry Potter novels. For student athletes seeking a more traditional route, Redlands has more than 20 varsity sports teams, called the Bulldogs, which participate in the NCAA Division III Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Notable Redlands alumni include Grammy-nominated jazz saxophonist Gerald Albright.
